Savage Craft Ale Works moves opening to Oct. 1

We're going to have to wait a little longer.

Due to some issues resulting from the coronavirus crisis, Savage Craft Ale Works has moved its opening date from this summer to Oct. 1.

Progress is continuing on the structure, and work on the inside continues.
Savage Craft Ale Works will be housed in several renovated historic structures, including the former West Columbia (1925) City Hall and Fire Station building, at 430 Center Street.

In the Old City Hall-Fire House the fire engine bays and side windows have been reopened and the floors are being redone. A foot-thick concrete foundation has been added.

A large metal structure is also being constructed behind the building, where the brewery will stand. A soundstage is under construction on the grounds, too.

The project ties into West Columbia’s new Interactive Art Park on Meeting Street, and eventually into State Street. A sidewalk will be added from State Street to Savage Craft from via Center Street.

Savage Craft also includes the renovation of the historic New Brookland Jail, that sits beside the old City Hall and Fire Station. The the one-story brick building with barred windows and its parapeted or “false front” facade was built around 1908.

The former jail will serve as the kitchen for Savage Craft Ale Works. The Savage Craft Ale Works construction team has reported that the old jail cells have been removed.
