West Columbia tops Lexington in American Legion baseball

Posted

West Columbia America Legion Post 79 defeated Lexington Post 7 by a score of 10-3 Tuesday night at Brookland-Cayce High School.

Dylan Williamson, of Pelion High School who is headed to The Citadel next year, was credited with the win for West Columbia, while Chase Rikard was charged with the loss for Lexington.  Alex Peguese got the save.

The West Columbia offense erupted with the help of two home runs off the bat of Brandon Caughman. His home runs came in the third and fourth innings and accounted for three RBIs.
"We've got a pretty good ball team," said West Columbia Coach Johnny Harper. "We just need to cut down on the mental mistakes." Harper said his team had too many errors, Tuesday night. "If we cut down on the mistakes, we're going to be pretty tough to beat."

Harper said Ryan Williamson and Austin Shumpert also had a good night at the plate for his team.

West Columbia set the tone for the night with four runs in the first inning. West Columbia also scored two runs in the third and three in the fourth inning.

Lexington scored runs in the third inning, and the fifth and the sixth innings.

The two teams play again Wednesday night in Lexington.
