City of Cayce approves mask mandate

Posted

From Ashley Hunter- City of Cayce Spokeswoman – Tuesday night, the Cayce City Council voted to enact an ordinance to mandate that masks be worn in places open to the general public, within the City Limits. This ordinance will become effective on Friday morning, July 10, at 6 a.m.. Individuals violating this ordinance are subject to a civil infraction and $25 fine, while businesses are subject to a $100 penalty.

City Council did not make this decision lightly and consulted with respected sources of information showing that Mandatory Mask requirements have been proven to lower the possibility of contracting COVID-19. The City will continue to utilize best practices in attempting to slow the spread of the virus and in working to protect the health and safety of its citizens and businesses.

To assist with this requirement, the City will provide free masks, while supplies last and on a first-come, first-serve basis. Cayce residents can receive up to two (2) masks per person or five (5) masks per family. Residents that have the ability to purchase their own masks are encouraged to do so.

Residents can make their own masks by following the CDC’s guidance on making cloth face coverings and can find additional information by visiting the following CDC website: https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/prevent-getting-sick/how-to-make-cloth-face-covering.html.
