SC DOT inspecting the site of fatal I-20 crash

Lanes were closed on I-20 at mile marker 56, the Cedarcrest Road overpass, after a tractor-trailer crashed into the bridge supports and caught fire.

The collision Sunday resulted in the death of Benjamin Edward Parker, 44, of Douglasville, Ga.

All lanes have been reopened, but Cedarcrest Road is closed at the overpass, according to a report from the SC Department of Transportation. Bridge inspectors have been at the site of the crash Monday reviewing the damage to the Cedarcrest Road overpass after the truck struck a column that supports the overpass. A new guardrail has also been installed.

SCDOT is urging all drivers to travel carefully as work continues in this area. SCDOT photos
