Wilton Road is repaired, and open

Posted

Wilton Road is open more than a month ahead of schedule. It was opened to traffic last week.

Wilton road was washed out in the 2015 flood. It had been road-blocked since. Some called the 2015 flood a 1,000-year flood.

Wilton Road is in Springdale. Wattling Road is to its west and I-26 and Rainbow Drive are to its east.

Rep. Micah Caskey, who lives near the road posted: “At long last it’s finally open again! Thanks to everyone that worked so hard to get this project done — it took all of us pulling together and now it’s finished!”

West Columbia City Councilman Mike Green did a dance on the newly opened road. “You can drive down Wilton Road,” Green said.

Since it was damaged, disputes over ownership of property and the permission to work on the site beside the road have delayed restoration. But those issues were resolved.

In February, S.C. Department of Transportation Engine Jeremy Yuhas said the completion date on the Wilton Road repair was April 30. But the repair was completed and the road has opened early.
