The 3rd annual Capital City Classic produced an historic moment at Cecil Woolbright Field for one of the winning teams.
Dutch Fork defeated defending Class 5A and Gold Division champion Wando 2-1 in the final.
Damon Williams accounted for both goals for the Silver Foxes, who advanced to the Gold Division final with a 1-0 win over A.C. Flora at Chapin High School  They finished the tournament 5-0 and a margin of victory of 11-2.
More important, the victory ended the longest winning streak by a boys' soccer team in S.C. High School League history. The Warriors entered Sunday having won 57 consecutive games and rallied from 0-2 down to defeat River Bluff 3-2 in overtime of the Gold Division semifinal at W.C. Hawkins Stadium to extend it to 58.
Ironically, the Gators handed Wando its last loss prior to Sunday. It was a 1-0 victory over the Warriors in "The Swamp" on May 7, 2016 in the 3rd round of the Class 4A playoffs. The Gators went on to win their first-ever state title.                                                                                                                                  "This will give the whole program a big confidence boost and belief that with hard work, anything is possible," head coach Jovan Brdarski said. "It is something that future players should be striving for and these guys set the standard. Now, we look to the next games getting to state.  We have a talented and hard-working team. Although this is a great achievement, we need to calm down and continue working hard and improving and not think that its over. We need to stay humble and continue working. The season has just started."
Earlier in the day, Hartsville claimed the Silver Division by defeating Greenwood on penalty kicks. The Red Foxes advanced following a 7-0 win over Berkeley in the Silver Division semifinal at Irmo High School.
