Just 3 months ago, Dutch Fork defeated Dorman in football for its 4th straight Class 5A title.

Friday night at Colonial Life Arena, it was the Silver Foxes who fell to the reigning dynasty of Class 5A basketball in the Cavaliers.

Nationally-ranked Dorman rolled to a 65-46 win over Dutch Fork to claim its 4th straight title. It was the 28th straight win for the Cavaliers (30-1), who joined Calhoun County as the only S.C. High School League teams to win 4 straight titles.

“This team has had a target on its back all year,” said Dorman head coach Thomas Ryan, a graduate of Lexington High School. “So, we knew the main goal and for them to really accomplish what wanted to, we had to get here. And they did that. We worked hard. We defended extremely hard all year.”

Dorman flexed its muscle early, scoring the game’s 1st 11 points. Dutch Fork did not score its 1st field goal until the 3:07 mark of the 1st quarter on an A.J. Knight layup.

The Class 5A Co-Players of the Year P.J. Hall and Myles Tate outscored the entire Silver Foxes’ roster 21-15 in the 1st half. Tate led a quartet of double-figure scorers for Dorman with 17 points, followed by Hall with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Jalen Breazele with 11 and Justin Amadi with 10.

Leading 37-15 at halftime, the Cavaliers extended their lead as many as 26 points in the 2nd half. Dutch Fork (21-10) continued to battle, outscoring the Cavaliers 31-28 in the 2nd half.

Jarvis Green had 12 points to lead the Silver Foxes, who were making their 2nd state final appearance.

“It’s been a long 4 months, but it’s been a great 4-month journey,” Dutch Fork head coach Brett Jones said. “The football players come out and then they’re gone and then we’re trying to figure it out. (Putting) the puzzle together and getting that puzzle together which was so satisfying and we really played good basketball the last 5-6 games. Even against (Dorman), we didn’t play bad. They’re just huge.”

Following the game, former Lexington High School head coach Bailey Harris presented commemorative game balls to his former players.
