The blast set the tone as the Eagles posted a 10-0 win, in a six-inning, shortened affair over Brookland-Cayce. 

The crosstown rivals squared off in Round 2 of the Class 4A District 7 S.C. High School Baseball playoffs, Thursday.

Dalton Mims got the win for Airport, throwing just 60 pitches, while Hayden Thomas took the loss for the Bearcats. 

The Eagles scored 3 runs in the sixth to have the game called on the 10-run rule.  Airport scored in every inning but the 2nd inning and had10 hits on the night compared to 2 by Brookland-Cayce.

"We're in about as good a shape as we can be in," Airport head baseball coach Tim Perry said.

Airport does not play again until Monday. The Eagles will await the winner of Saturday's contest between Beaufort and Brookland-Cayce. 

Chapin 9, Summerville 2

A year after winning the Class 4A title, the Chapin baseball team moved a step closer towards a berth in the Class 5A Lower State playoff.

Sparked by a 9-strikeout, 1-hit allowed effort by William Privette, the Eagles defeated the Green Wave at home in the District 5 winner’s bracket contest. Sam Greer and Jarrett Whitley both collected 2 RBI off losing pitcher Brody Hopkins and Greer had 3 hits.

The Eagles will now await the winner of Saturday’s contest between Summerville and Cane Bay in Monday’s District Final.

River Bluff 4, Berkeley 2 (10 innings)

Clemson University commit Ricky Williams’ 2-run single in the Top 10th helped send the Gators to the District 7 final on Monday.

River Bluff trailed 1-0 when Noah LeBron belted a 2-run home run in the Top 3rd inning. The Stags tied the game in the Bottom 5th and it stayed deadlocked until Williams’ go-ahead 2-run RBI.

Brayden Fowler relieved Jack Benedict in the 6th inning and finished with 6 strikeouts and allowed just 2 hits.

River Bluff will face the winner of Saturday’s Berkeley/Sumter game on Monday in The Swamp.

Dutch Fork 17, Fort Dorchester 5

Lance Fuhr had a career game Thursday.

By the time he was finished, Fuhr had collected 4 hits, hit 3 home runs and finished with 9 RBI to lead the Silver Foxes into the District 8 championship game.

It was part of a 23-hit offensive attack by Dutch Fork. The onslaught started in the Top 1st with the first of 2 3-run homers that gave Dutch Fork a 4-0 lead. The Patriots rallied to tie the game in the bottom half of the 1st, then Fuhr put the Silver Foxes back on top in the third with a 2-run homer.

The Silver Foxes added 2 runs in the 4th and erupted for 4 runs in the 6th. This included an RBI triple by Hugh Ryan, a 2-run single by Crosby Jones and an RBI single by Fuhr.

Fuhr capped his evening with another 3-run homer in the Top 7th as part of a 5-run rally by the Silver Foxes.

Andrew Fulmer entered the game in relief in the 1st and struck out 6 and allowed just 1 hit in 5 ⅓ innings.

Dutch Fork will face either South Florence or Fort Dorchester on Monday.

Lexington 10, Stratford 5

Blake Knight, Owen Cofer, Landon McMahan and Tristan Allen all had 2 hits and Cofer and McMahan each drove in 2 runs to keep the Wildcats alive in the Class 5A playoffs.

Will Wicker picked up the win for Lexington, which now faces Ashley Ridge in another elimination contest on Saturday.

The winner will face St. James Monday in the District 6 final and need 2 wins to advance to the Lower State playoffs.

Gilbert 11, Cheraw 0

Ashby Vining had 2 RBI and Travis Elliott threw a complete game shutout as the Indians won their second straight road contest and advanced to the Distirct 6 final on Monday.

They will face the winner of Saturday’s contest between Hanahan and Cheraw.

Pelion 5, Wade Hampton 2

A late rally by the Panthers advanced them to the Class 3A District 5 final on Monday.

They will face the winner of Saturday’s contest between Aynor and Wade Hampton.

Gray Collegiate 11, Latta 6

The War Eagles are a victory away from the Class 2A District 7 playoffs following the win over the Vikings.

They will face the winner of Saturday’s Latta/Woodland game on Monday at home.

Batesburg-Leesville 19, C.A. Johnson 4

The Panthers stayed alive in the Class 2A District 2 playoffs with the win over the Hornets.

They will have a rematch against Southside Christian on Saturday for a berth in Monday’s District final against Andrew Jackson.
