UPDATE: Gray Collegiate boys' basketbal coach out with covid-19

Game tonight versus Columbia cancelled.

Top-ranked and 3-time defending Class 2A champion Gray Collegiate Academy will look to wrap up a 5th straight Region 3-2A title without its sideline leader.

The Chronicle has learned head coach Dion Bethea has tested positive for covid-19. He has apparently only shown asymptomatic symptoms and will miss 4 games during his 14 days of quarantine.

Gray Collegite (16-4, 7-0) has cancelled tonight's game against Columbia. It's scheduled to play Newberry Wednesday and Friday.

Bethea has led the program since its inception and looks to return for the post-season as the War Eagles seek to become the 5th team in SC High School League history to win 4 straight state titles.

Assistant coach and former University of South Carolina standout Brandon Wallace and Junior Laurie will take over for Bethea until his return.
