Lexington County nonprofits receive part of $65 million CARES funding

Posted

Nearly 3,000 SC small businesses and nonprofits will receive federal corona virus relief funds.

The SC Department of Administration announced 2,970 applicants for the SC Cares Act Relief Grant Programs will receive grant funds totaling $65 million.

Applicants applied for funding through either the Minority and Small Business Relief Grant Program or the Nonprofit Relief Grant Program.

Actual payments will occur through January 2021, based on when applicants received notification and provide payment information to receive funding.

Notification of those not receiving an award will be sent in January 2021.

Lexington’s Dickerson Children’s Advocacy Center received a $50,000 grant.

“We were very relieved to get these funds as we are anticipating more fallout to come – especially with the anticipated VOCA (Victims of Crime Act) funding cuts,” said Carol Yarborough, DCAC executive director.

The DCAC provides comprehensive assessment and treatment services to physically and sexually abused children ages 0-18 years throughout the Midlands.

“The funds we got will help offset what we lost in the past several months. DCAC had to cancel numerous 25th anniversary activities that would have helped us with unrestricted operations expenses, so that will help us overall – receiving these funds.”

The Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council recieved over $49,000.

“LRADAC will use the funding for any gaps in our general operational budget due to covid-19, ensuring we continue to serve our patients, their families and our communities on their road to recovery,” said Robbie Robertson, LRADAC communications director.

The SC CARES Act Relief Grant Programs were created and funded by the SC General Assembly through Act 154, which was signed by Gov. Henry McMaster Sept. 25, 2020.

These grant funds are designated for small and minority businesses and nonprofit organizations to reimburse them for costs associated with business interruption and expenses due to covid-19.
