Dr. James C. Steele, practiced medicine at 401 W. Main Street in downtown Lexington for years. He died on July 1, 2018 at the age of 94. 

Thursday NAI Columbia announced that John Gregory represented the Estate of Marie Steele in the sale of the property. The 3.49-acre infill development site sold for $600,000. Information on plans for the property was not immediately available. 

In April 1956 Steele set up the Main Street practice with Dr. Albert Thomas in General Practice.

"It was difficult decision to let go of the old office, along with the surrounding property at 401 W. Main Street in Lexington, where our father, Dr. James C. Steele, practiced medicine for so many years,” said Tracy Steele.

“We're thankful to John Gregory and his team at NAI for finding someone who appreciated the site not just for its development potential, but also for the historical and sentimental value of the over 100-year-old home. May the new owner and his family form as many happy and long-lasting memories there as my siblings and I did over the many years it was part of our family."

The house is 2,600 sq.-ft. in area. According to a release from NAI, it potentially qualifies for historic and abandoned building tax credits. The NAI release states: "The property features a rare development opportunity with road frontage on and direct access to W. Main Street."
