Backup your files before it's too late

Are you still using Windows 7? Keep reading.
If you’re using Windows 10, you should back up your operating system now.
Why? Microsoft is to release version 20H2 of Windows 10 in  a few days. You need a back up because new releases don’t always run smoothly.
The Windows 7 operating system hit its end-of-life point in January 2020. That means it’s not getting updates and fixes.
The FBI Cyber Division warns of an increase in cyberattacks on operating systems after they pass the end-of-life status.
The National Cyber Security Centre, a UK government agency, advised users to stop using Windows 7 for banking or email.
According to Cnet, a technology and science reporting site, many users can upgrade from Windows 7 free. The catch is you need to have a genuine, licensed copy of Windows 7 to claim the free software.
Make sure you’ve backed up your files before completing these steps in case of a problem. If necessary, recruit a tech-savvy friend or family member to help.
To upgrade a Windows 7 computer or backup Windows 10:
• Visit the Download Windows 10 website from your Windows computer: https://www.microsoft.com/software-download/windows10 .
• Under “Create Windows 10 installation media”, click “Download tool now” and “Run”.
• Choose “Create installation media” and save the installation files somewhere safe.
I suggest saving it on your computer first. The file will likely be called something like “MediaCreationTool2004.exe”.
Follow the prompts for the download.
• When that has completed, find the file you downloaded. Copy the file to a flash drive or portable hard drive so you have it in case the software upgrade doesn’t agree with your machine. If you have a Windows 10 computer, that’s the end of the process.
If you’re updating a Windows 7 computer, open the file. You’ll have to click “yes” or “okay” on any prompts and accept the necessary license terms.
When the upgrade completes, go to Settings > Update & Security > Activation. You’ll see a digital license for Windows 10.
Next: Mac’s malware mistake.
