Welcome to the first edition of Church Buzz. You'll see here news of what’s happening in our county's church community. You may have read other stories about mission trips I organized for Lexington Baptist Church.
LBC has been involved in local ministries and overseas missions more than 20 years. Our church was one of the founding members of LICS and offers other assistance to our Lexington neighbors. Overseas missions hooked me in 2000 on my first trip with LBC to Brazil. The people I met and things I saw on that trip had a profound impact. After 10 days there, I knew it wouldn’t be my last trip.
To date I’ve been on 20 short term trips, most to Central America. The trip activities vary depending on where we go and who we work with.
Our partners in Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras and Dominican Republic minister to specific people in their countries.
Mission trips involve building a church, school or outdoor stoves, putting in a water purification system or repairs to a hospital on the side of a mountain in Guatemala.
Other trips provide vacation bible school, arts and crafts, sports and recreation for kids, community outreach and distributing reading glasses.
Our friends at other Lexington County churches have active mission programs abroad and right here at home.
Please let me hear from you about what you and your church are doing. I have contacted about 20 churches to request updates on what they are doing here and around the world. If you want to spread the word about what’s important to you, please let me know.
