BC Grammar School No. 1 will celebrate its 65th anniversary May 24.

They’ll have an assembly at 10 a.m. in the Hook Avenue school cafeteria followed by a second at 11 a.m., said instructional facilitator Preston Deaver.

The K-5 school is also asking any alumni or community members who have artifacts related to the history of the school to present it to the school for display as a part of the commemoration ceremony.

Deaver and Assistant Principal Marise Shumpert received a resolution from West Columbia Mayor Bobby Horton and West Columbia City Council recognizing the 65th Anniversary.

Horton referred to BC Grammar as a “very special place,” during the resolution presentation.

BC grammar School No. 1 is scheduled to be closed at the end of the school year.

Its students will move to the new Riverbank Elementary School being built on Cougar Drive. The new school is across from Northside Middle School in West Columbia.
