AROUND GILBERT & SUMMIT

Hollow Creek Community Club members celebrated the club’s 60th anniversary last week with a dinner for themselves, guests and former members. This also marked the last meeting before the summer break.

President Timmy Koon welcomed over 60 guests to the anniversary. Members had decorated the large meeting room with beautiful flowers and place settings on the tables. In one corner of the room was a very large “Hollow Creek Celebrating 60 Years—Together We Grow” celebration cake. After a time of fellowship, everyone enjoyed a dinner with roast beef, mashed potatoes, greens and rolls. After a brief business meeting, Koon asked if anyone had anything they would like to share about being a HCCC member.

Several current and former members shared stories about coming to the center as teens, and one member had attended school at the facility back in the 1950s when it was an elementary school. Two charter members were present, and a few other members who had actually helped construct the current club house after it closed as a public school.

Members with birthdays through August were recognized. Happy Birthday wishes go to Deb Philbin, Dean Balder, Judy Sease, Tim Sease, Paula Koon, Margie Whittle, Janie Keisler, Tim Koon, Dan Tinman, Jimmy Lucas, Nancy Tinman, Wendell Evans, Harry Woodard, Jr. and Deborah Sox. Members with anniversaries through August were recognized. Happy Anniversary to Dale and Charlotte Swygert, Tim and Mary Ann Sease, Darren and Rhonda Nelson, Jimmy and Jean Smith, Richard and Mary Smith, Lynwood and Ann Hughes, O’Neal and Betty sessions, and Don and Pat Tinman.

The Hollow Creek Community Club has several annual fundraisers that benefit the Hollow Creek Community. Annual dues are $5. If you would like to become a member, the next meeting will be September 13 at 7 p.m. For information, call 892-2621.

First Baptist Church in Gilbert recently welcomed its new Youth and Children’s Pastor. Roscoe Corder is beginning his ministry at the church. He and his wife Andrena have three children, Hayden, Addy and Laynah.
