Cutting edge foundation at First Baptist

Posted

Among the many ministries that First Baptist Church of Lexington has and supports, I’ve discovered a fascinating new one.
It is called Cutting Edge Foundation. It provides medical care for a large region of Chad. Evans Jones FBC told me about the ministry and arranged for me to interview Dr. Bert Oubre. He is president of CEF.
When he had a medical office on Barr Rd., Pastor Ralph Schneck went by to welcome Dr. Oubre to the community.
Shortly after that the doctor and his wife visited First Baptist. Even though they are members elsewhere, they attend FBC often when they are in town.
FBC supports the doctor and his wife as part of their foreign missions Outreach.
Dr. Oubre is an MD with extensive experience in medical missions in Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh to name a few.
He has been on over 100 mission trips and worked with Voice of Martyrs for 7 years.
During that time, they were able to build a hospital in Sudan to care for Christians who were victims of persecution and violence.
He started Cutting Edge Foundation in 2002 with the goal of providing health care to more people in Africa.
Later, they started a hospital in Cameroon. Many patients from Chad started coming, too because there were no hospital in their communities.
That prompted a survey trip to Chad. They visited 14 sites and settled on N’Djamena.
Using a $20,000 donation they were able to build a hospital there in 2011.
Today they are the busiest hospital in Chad. They deliver more babies than any other hospital in the country. And people from other countries in that region also use the hospital.
More importantly, they are helping 6 unreached people groups. Dr. Oubre told me that he could see Gods hand in those successes.
