Down South Columnist Tom Poland is making a local appearance

Posted

Wednesday, June 27 at 6:30 pm Bistro on the Boulevard at 1085 Lake Murray Boulevard, Irmo, SC will present a special event featuring our own Tom Poland! The author will be sharing his book "South Carolina Country Roads", and there will be "Road Music" by The Time Pirates.

If you read our paper you already know Tom Poland is a southern writer, and his work has appeared in magazines throughout the South. Among his recent books are 'Classic Carolina Road Trips From Columbia; Georgialina, A Southland, As We Knew It'; and 'Reflections of South Carolina, Vol. II.' Swamp Gravy, Georgia’s Official Folk Life Drama, staged his play, 'Solid Ground'.

In addition to writing for our paper, he writes a weekly column for newspapers and journals in Georgia and South Carolina about the South, its people, traditions, lifestyle, and changing culture and speaks to groups across South Carolina and Georgia. He’s the editor of Shrimp, Collards & Grits, a Lowcountry lifestyle magazine. You can learn more about his work at http://www.tompoland.net

The Time Pirates are an acoustic act. They plunder time to cover songs from the 50's to the present, and bring tight harmonies and good music. They have influences ranging from easy listening and country to R&B, and rock. They enjoy having fun with their listeners, often inviting them up to sing along with them. You can learn more about the musical act by visiting their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/TheTimePirates/

If you go to the event and meet Tom, bring a copy of the Chronicle with you and send us a picture. We'd love to see our paper out in the wild with one of our most loved columnists.
