Free health and wellness fair

Some Lexington County people are unable to get health screenings.
They lack insurance or funds to pay for blood pressure and other vital sign tests.
Regular screenings will prevent a major health crisis.
It is much easier to treat most illnesses when they are caught in the early stages. Emmanuel Lutheran Church is well aware of this and will offer a free, Good Samaritan Health and Wellness Fair for members of the community.
It will be Saturday, Sept. 22, at the church at 2491 Emmanuel Church Rd., West Columbia.
The fair will offer screenings and emphasize nutritious foods and healthier eating. Walmart pharmacy staff will offer immunizations.
Others such as BeWell Home services, Scooter Scott GED project and the Social Security Administration will help provide services and information.
The event will coincide with their monthly community meal.
The fair is just one element of the church’s effort to “practice what they preach” and get to know their community, according to Susie Phillips of the church.
For several years, Emmanuel Lutheran has provided a food pantry, a monthly community meal, annual Easter and Halloween festivals, Rally Day and 2 well-attended blood drives a year.
They felt they were still missing folks who need extra help, support and community resources.
The fair will be from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.
