Town aims to bring community together safely

Posted

The Town of Lexington will be hosting free movie nights at River Bluff High School.

During the corona virus pandemic, many social gathering and events have been cancelled.

This has given the town an opportunity to think outside the box to have events while following guidelines to protect public health.

Laurin Barnes said town officials wanted something innovative to bring people together safely.

Drive-up movies is a way to do it while socially distancing, she said.

A big screen will show 80s theme movies in the high school parking lot with spaces for around 140 vehicles.

Gates will open at 8 pm and the movies will begin at 9.

To help with social distancing, people will be encouraged to stay in their cars.

If they get out to sit in chairs, they will need to stay within reaching distance of their own cars.

Barnes said they are asking people to bring their own snacks.

The town plans on hosting movies on Saturday nights from August 15 to October 10.

The first movie being shown will be Dirty Dancing.
