Is this gluten free?

Posted

Sept. 13 is national Celiac Disease Day.

Celiac disease is a auto-immune disorder where you can't digest gluten, a protein found in wheat, rye and barley. Yes, this also includes certain alcohols.

Gluten can damage your small intestine if you're allergic.

You may experience abdominal pain, nausea, rash, headaches, joint pain, mouth ulcers, weight loss and heartburn.

Have you ever eaten something and experienced these symptoms?

Check your labels. What you're eating may contain gluten.

I never noticed if what I ate contained gluten until I began having problems digesting certain foods.

I went to a gastroenterologist who specializes in the digestive tract.

The gastroenterologist told me to cut out all gluten in my diet.

Did you notice grocery stores offer gluten free foods? I have.

These items are made for exactly this disease.

I am glad they created something like this to help me and others.

If this disease goes untreated, it can lead to long-term problems.

The only treatment for celiac disease is a strict gluten-free diet.

Yes, this means read the labels or go straight to the gluten free section at your grocery store.

Pay attention to your symptoms and check your labels. For more info on celiac disease visit https://www.webmd.com/disgestive-disorders/celiac-disease/celiac-disease .
