iPads, iPhones need software updates

Do you have an iPhone or iPad with WiFi and cellular service? If your device was made in 2012 or earlier, you need to update your software before November 3.
At around midnight UTC on November 3, some iPhone and iPad devices will stop maintaining accurate GPS, date, and time.
Why? Apple says functions like syncing with iCloud and fetching email “might not work” if you don’t update. They warn devices not updated before the cut off may not be able to get over-the-air updates anymore. That means if you don’t update, and soon, that you’ll have to tether your device to a computer with iTunes to update.
To check your software version, open Settings. Tap General, then tap About. Look at Software Version. The number next to it is what iOS version you’re running.
iPhone 5 and iPad (4th generation) both need to have iOS 10.3.4.
iPhone 4s, iPad mini (1st generation), iPad 2 (CDMA models), and the iPad (3rd generation) all need to have iOS 9.3.6.
Apple claims the issue doesn’t affect iPod touch. They also claim it shouldn’t harm WiFi only iPad models. They also say it won’t hurt devices newer than ones listed here.
To update an older version, go to Settings > General, and tap Software Update. Then tap Download and Install. If a message asks to temporarily remove apps because the software needs more space, tap Continue. Later, your device should reinstall apps that it removed. Tap Install to proceed.
