Did you buy your fall apples? Here’s a good recipe for apple butter that will make 9 or 10 pints. Be sure to have enough sterile jars for this. Kids and grandkids love this apple butter, so it is good to keep on hand.
Apple Butter

1 peck    apples, unpeeled
10 cups    sugar
2 cups    ground cloves
4 cups    water
2 Tbsp.    cinnamon
1 cup    ground allspice
Wash, quarter and cook apples with water until tender. Rub through a sieve or food mill. Add half as much sugar as pulp. Add spices. Simmer about 2 hours. Stir often to keep from scorching. When thickened, pour into hot jars and seal. Apple butter will thicken as it cools.
