LICS volunteers honored

AROUND LEXINGTON COUNTY

Lexington Interfaith Community Services held its annual celebration to recognize volunteers last Tuesday.

The following colunteers were honored: Matthews McQueen, donation center, 1,044 hours; Barb Kirby, Thrift Store, 607 hours; Patty Tyner, office, 526 hours; Pat Luoma, donation center, 509 hours; and Debra Faust, social services, 504 hours.

Church groups honored were Pilgrim Lutheran Church for 2,159 hours, and St. Stephen’s Lutheran Church for donating 12,998 pounds of food, and Pisgah Lutheran Church for donating 12,706 pounds.

House Raeford was selected Partner of the years for its chicken donations. The Ron Redd Award for Outstanding Contribution to the Food Pantry went to Betty Franks of Crossroads World Outreach Center.

Congratulations to these volunteers who have helped so many in need in our community.

The Lexington Network of Female Executives met last week to hear Betty McCrary of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation discuss personal experiences with juvenile diabetes. She says the group needs your support through volunteering or donations. Learn more at palmetto.jdrf.org.

Coming up this weekend, the Lexington County Museum will host its 9th annual Spring Open House May 6, 2-5 p.m. The public is invited to tour the antebellum buildings and learn about historic crafts, like soap making and blacksmithing. You can also taste bread baked in the outdoor oven. Visit this event to learn more about our county’s history, enjoy light refreshments and have some family fun. The event is free.

Don’t forget to get your tickets for the Festival of Tables and luncheon May 12, 11 a.m., at Lexington United Methodist Church’s Wesley Hall. Call the church, or Trudy at 920-4999, or Sally at 864-602-0705.

_Walk on Main is also coming up May 12, 6-10 p.m., at Lexington’s Icehouse Amphitheater. You must be 21 and have a photo ID to enter. Buy tickets at lexingtonwinewalk.com. Cost is $30 in advance and includes a wine glass, wine tastings and hors d’oeuvres. You will also be entertained by the band, “Going Commando.” Not allowed are backpacks, children, strollers, coolers or chairs.
