Outdoor community baptism

Posted

Long before I met Pastor Ralph Schneck, I had heard about his church’s projects.
Through the “grapevine” I learned First Baptist Church plans a public baptism  Sunday, Sept. 2 at the Icehouse Amphitheater in Lexington.
For 10 years, his church has done events like a public community Thanksgiving service with multiple area churches.
Last year, they did the first baptism at the Amphitheater.
They had done public baptisms around Lexington and at Lake Murray and the YMCA Family Center. Since the church needed a portable baptistry, they built one that can be transported anywhere on a trailer. It can quickly be unloaded, set up and the water heated quickly.
The layout of the Amphitheater at Church and West Main makes it easier for people to see what is happening on the stage. And those who wish to can make a public profession of faith. Much like people did in the first century churches.
The event will start at 10 am with a sermon by the Pastor, followed by the baptisms. Before the service, the staff will serve orange juice and donuts.
All are welcome regardless of your denomination. If you are getting baptized, please make a reservation at
www.FBlex.org online and click on baptism or call
803-957-0686.
