AROUND PELION

The Pelion Ruritan celebrated its 70th birthday at the April meeting. Ruritan was founded in Virginia in 1928 as a civic service organization. Its slogan is “Fellowship, Goodwill and Community Service.”

Congratulations to our Pelion FFA Tool ID team for placing first in the mid-state region contest. Bryson Shumpert placed first overall and Larry Hunter placed third overall. Congratulations to the FFA Chapter Poultry Judging team for placing second at the state contest. Lee Padgett won first high individual.

A big congratulations to both the boys and girls track teams as they won the Conference 5-AAA Track Championships. The girls have now won the Conference for seven consecutive years and a total of 17 in school history. The boys won for the third consecutive year and 11 in the last 13 years for a total of 20 in school history. Two Pelion athletes, Dayrun Keith for the boys and Riley Edwards for the girls, were named Most Outstanding Track Athletes for the year. Thanks to parents, staff, faculty and administration for your support!

Forts Pond Elementary is very proud of their performing group, “The Bugle Boy Girls.” They participated in Kid’s Day in Lexington April 28. This group acquired its name a couple of years ago when they danced to the song, “The Bugle Boys from Company B” for the school’s Veterans Day program. Since then, they have become the performance group for their school. They recently performed at the Leader in Me Symposium and Talent Show.

Congratulations to Pelion High students John Perry, Belle Kneece, Rachel Walters, Briana Monarca, and Journey Castro for receiving Superior Ratings at the SCBDA State Solo & Ensemble Festival.

Congratulations to the Pelion High School Bands for receiving the prestigious “Outstanding Performance Award for Musical Excellence.” This award is the highest given to a band program in South Carolina and is PHS’s third straight. The Marching Pride were Lower State Champions for the third time in four years and State Bronze Medalists, receiving Superior Ratings at both championships.

There are two final opportunities to see the Pelion High students perform. May 5 is the annual Jazz Night Dinner Fundraiser and May 17 is the annual Spring Concert. Everyone is invited.
