Pink Tea at Midlands Christian

Have you ever heard of a “Pink Tea”?
I had not until I got a call from Judy Knight of Midlands Christian Church. I was intrigued enough to make an appointment to talk with Tim Brokow who pastors the 190 member non-denominational Lexington church.
Since October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Tea is a breast cancer awareness event. It is all free.
Many women do not get regular mammograms. Judy believes that this educational program can save lives if women in the community know how and where to go for reduced cost or free mammograms.
This will be the church’s first Pink Tea although they have had an active cancer care ministry for a couple of years.
Judy came across a website called Journey of Hope that does audio broadcasts on topics such as how to respond to, comfort and support people with cancer. The website became a great source of information and was the catalyst for their cancer support ministry.
The Pink Tea will be Saturday, Oct. 20, at the church at 1312 West Main Street, Lexington, from 2 - 4 p.m.
Tea and dessert will be served although I don’t think the tea will be pink. Cancer awareness speakers, displays, a celebration of survivors and door prizes are planned.
Don Parker, a well known local entertainer, will perform.
Those attending will receive information on reduced rate or free mammograms. Applications will be available.
Guest packets contain tips on reducing the risk of breast cancer and information on male breast cancer.
They ask you to RSVP.
