Pregnancy center cares for moms

The idea for this week’s column came from a faithful Church Buzz reader, Judith Knight.
In February, Judith contacted me about a support group for clients of Lexington’s La Vie Pregnancy Care Center.
LaVie is a local, Christian-based non-profit organization dedicated to offering women alternatives to abortion. They support moms- and dads-to-be with education, counseling and love. They offer pregnancy testing and ultrasounds, as well as faith-based classes on healthy pregnancies, child birth, parenting and relationships.
The expecting and new moms can earn “Baby Bucks” by attending the classes. Those bucks can be used to purchase items from the Baby Boutique.
LaVie even offers post-abortion counseling and support for those who may regret having made that decision. Everything they do is free of charge and strictly confidential.
Executive Director Linda Brown assured me that their primary goal is transforming lives for the better.
The support group met on Valentine’s Day. 7 people joined the group called Friends for LaVie that day. They have adopted Mother Teresa’s motto of “Give your hands to serve and your hearts to love.” They organized and voted on how to get the group off the ground. They decided that whatever they do will be done with love, without judgement, politics or opinions.
One ongoing project for “Friends for LaVie” will be making and collecting clothing, hygiene products and other necessities for moms and babies.
They meet on the 4th Sunday of the month at Midlands Christian Church at 4:00 pm. Their next meeting will be April 28.
