Reading is good for the soul

Posted

As a child, I loved to read.
Our mother would take my brother and me to the library.
My favorites were the Little Golden Books.
The design of the covers, colorful pages and stories is why I grew to love them – and still do.
When old enough to finally get my own library card, it was pure bliss. That shiny red Lexington County Library card made me feel like I held the key to an underground world.
I grew to love lots of books of different genres- horror, suspense, romance. I still have my wondrous book collection and continue to add more to this day.
Reading has many health benefits.
Our brain is the most complex organ in our body.
Reading slows mental decline by keeping important parts of the brain working. It improves overall mental flexibility, an important component to developing and retaining memory. Reading fiction has shown to improve empathy and emotional intelligence.
Plenty of foods with high omega-3 fat content have helped improve brain and memory function. These include salmon, nuts and avocados.
Even working Sudoku and crossword puzzles will keep your brain healthy and functioning at its highest levels.
Next week: Good, bad and ugly migraines

health wanted, reading
