With summer on the way, parents who want to put their children in summer camps need to start planning now.

Does your dog need an education?  My doggie Yellow Bear, a lab-chow mix, desperately needs the Canine Good Citizen class May 2, 9 a.m.-1 p.m.,  at Crooked Creek Park. Space is limited.  Call 345-6181 for info.  

Warmer weather means more sun, which

The Irmo Chapin Recreation Commission has many activities and camps planned for the summer months, as well other events which are coming up in the next few weeks.

May 9 i s the Spring Health Fair for senior citizens. Vendors and health education material will be available at the free event at Seven Oaks Park, 9 a.m. to noon.

A Melvin Derby is coming up May 12 for grandmothers, moms, and daughters to enjoy a fancy day at the park with races, sandwiches, tea, and scones. Space is limited, so reservations are required. Cost is $65. The event is at Melvin Park 10:30 a.m.-12:30 means more time in the sun. To prevent skin damage caused by tans and sunburns from excess time in those UV rays, dermatologists, suggest that you slip, slap and slop. Slip on an SPF shirt, slop on sunscreen and slap on a hat to protect your skin and keep it healthy and young looking. They also suggest you get those moles checked out and make sure they’re not cancerous.  

For those who want to be involved and stay informed on the school district’s happenings, Lexington-Richland District 5 school board is having a meeting May 7, 7 p.m., at Lake Murray Elementary school.
