How to remove a keylogger

If you have a keylogger on your computer, do you know how to remove it?
Last week I explained the dangers of “Keystroke logging.” That’s the act of recording the keys struck on a keyboard which can let crooks see anything you type.
This week I’m sharing ways you can remove keyloggers that threaten your privacy.
• Review the programs on your computer to be sure they belong. Check your computer for suspicious programs. You’ll want to remove anything with “keylogger” in the name. A few common keylogger programs to look for are: Refog, DanuSoft or Spytech.
• Before you uninstall anything, do a quick Google search for the program name. This will help you understand what the program is. You can also ask a tech-savvy friend or family member for help, or email me at katie.lexchron@gmail.com .
To review installed programs on a Mac: Open the Finder, then open the “Applications” folder. Review everything installed. To remove suspicious programs, right-click on them and select “Move to trash.”
• On Windows: Open your start menu and open the Control Panel. Select “Programs” and “Uninstall a Program”. This will show the full list of the programs installed on your machine.
• Consider antivirus, antimalware, and/or anti-keylogger software. If you don’t feel comfortable uninstalling programs from your computer that’s okay. The other way to stay safe is to make sure you have reliable security software on your computer.
Kaspersky Internet Security and Avast Antivirus are 2 popular antivirus programs that clear out keyloggers.
SpyShelter is anti-keylogger software which offers keystroke encryption. That means if a keylogger slips through, your keystrokes are secure. For info visit: www.spyshelter.com/ . Ghostpress, an anti-keylogger solution from Schiffer Tech, protects from keyloggers and screenshot logging. For info visit: https://schiffer.tech/ghostpress.html .
