Think healthier this Thanksgiving

Posted

Thanksgiving is a time for sharing recipes and laughter.
It’s a good time also to create memories to hold onto for a lifetime.
We may find ourselves indulging in unhealthy behaviors - even those of us on diets.
Try these healthy tips to guide you through this Thanksgiving holiday.
1. Make sure to include vegetables. Try a veggie tray. If you don’t like veggies, try hiding them in your favorite recipes.
2. Water, water, water. As we get caught up in running errands and setting the table, we may forget to stay hydrated.
Your guests deserve a healthy host.
3. Bring your own healthy treat. If you’re going to a relative or friend’s house for dinner, bring a healthier alternative for yourself.
Others may plan to binge eat, but you don’t have to. This will help if you’re trying to stick to a diet plan.
4. Use herbs and spices. Holiday recipes often call for lots of seasoning. Herbs and spices will spruce up your turkey or favorite dish instead of salt. This will keep your dishes heart-healthy.
5. Don’t forget breakfast. Holiday mornings can get hectic. Take the time to get extra protein to jump start your day. Starting with an egg white keeps it healthy.
6. Use healthier oils. Substitute canola or olive oil for vegetable oil. They are lower in saturated fat and high in mono-unsaturated fat. Mono-unsaturated fats can improve cholesterol levels and lower your risk of heart disease.
I hope these help you this holiday season. Happy Thanksgiving.
