Twitter Privacy Settings

Posted

Last week I broke down how to make your Instagram private. This left readers wondering how they could protect their Twitter content. Like Instagram, the default privacy setting on Twitter is public. That means everyone, even folks who don't have a Twitter account, can read what you post and see your photos. If you want to control who can see your posts and follow your account, make it private.
What protections come with a private account? Only people you approve can see your posts. Your posts won't show up in search engine results. As another benefit, if someone retweets you, only your followers will see the repost.
How can you protect your account?
On Android: tap your profile picture in the upper left. Then tap "settings and privacy". Then tap "privacy and safety". The final step is tapping the checkbox next to "protect your tweets."
On iOS:  tap your profile picture in the upper left. Then tap "settings and privacy". Then tap "privacy and safety". The final step is different - the "protect your tweets" option is a toggle. Just tap it to make your account private.
On a computer: click your profile picture in the upper right-hand corner. Click "settings and privacy" from the drop-down menu. Then on the left-hand menu click "privacy and safety". Finally, click the "protect my tweets" checkbox at the top of the page. Once you select the checkbox you'll need to click the "save changes" button at the bottom of the page.
