The town of Gilbert is looking to “Run for Mark Jr.”

Mark Juergens Jr. is a 6th grade student at Gilbert Middle School. His mother, Melissa, is a teacher at the school and his father is a police officer. When Mark Jr. is not in school, he loves karate, deer hunting and fishing.

In October 2020, he was diagnosed with nodular sclerosis Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, 1 of 4 such classic Hodgkin lymphoma that occurs in children younger than 10 years of age.

Family and friends are seeking to raise funds to support the Juergens family as he undergoes treatment.

During the month of February, a virtual 5K event will be held for that purpose. From Feb. 13-15, runners can run or walk 5 or 10 kilometers and log on through the Run Hard Running Club app.

The entry fee is $25 and all participants will receive a t-shirt. The goal is to reach 500 miles and all proceeds will go to the Juergens family.
