106-year-old Pelion church struck by car

Posted

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church on Main Street in Pelion was struck and damaged by a vehicle Sunday night.

The car skidded off Main, across the lawn, and ran into the church just before 10 pm.

No one was inside the church at the time of the crash and no injuries were reported.

The vehicle appeared to be travelling south toward Pine Street when the driver lost control and knocked down the church’s small front sign. It pushed over at least one brick column and hit the building to the right of the its front door. It pushed in a part of a wall just under one of the larger stained-glass windows.

Authorities have not yet released the cause of the incident.
