3 charged in Pelion chop shop

Tip led to finding evidence, weapon

Lexington County investigators have arrested 3 people in a chop shop in Pelion.
Crystal Marie Black, 27, and Richard Wade Davis Jr., 33, are charged with tampering with vehicle identification numbers and operating a chop shop dismantling cars and selling the parts.
Daniel James McCarthy, 38, is simarly charged and with a gun possession violation.
“We received a tip from Richland County deputies,” Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said. “We confirmed it was at a home in the 100 block of Otis Road in Pelion.”
Deputies found other stolen vehicles and items including body panels and interior auto parts.
A handgun was found in a stolen vehicle McCarthy admitted driving. 
McCarthy has been convicted of a violent crime and is prohibited from possessing a handgun.
The 3 are being held in the Lexington County Detention Center.
