$6 million to improve school security

Covid relief funds for all 5 county school districts

Lexington County's 5 school districts will receive almost $6 million for covid-based improvements.
The federal corona virus relief money is to support reopenings. The money must be used for:
• Safety measures and personal protective equipment.
• Hiring school nurses.
• Hiring teachers to provide 1-on-1  instruction and support for struggling students.
• Technology to improve online learning.
District 1 in Lexington, Gilbert and Pelion is to receive $2,572,728
• District 2 in the Cayce-West Columbia area is to receive $1,040,790
• District 3 in Batesburg-Leesville is to receive $239,202
• District 4 in Gaston and Swansea is to receive $413,684
District 5 in Chapin and Irmo is to receive $1,602,281
The districts' shares were based per pupil beginning this week with an additional weighting applied to support students in poverty.
“Our teachers, nurses, and school staff have gone above and beyond to support students throughout the pandemic,” said State Superintendent of Education Molly Spearman.
“These funds are to be used to maintain and support their efforts to welcome additional students back safely for face to face instruction and meet the needs of those that are struggling both online and in the classroom.”
