Another delayed DHEC decision on vaccines

How much will Lexington County get?

The Chronicle's covid-related news is available free as a public service. We appeciate our advertisers and subscribers who make this possible.

Here they go again.
Despite lawmakers' criticism, SC's health agency board won't decide on distributing vaccine for a month.
Department of Health and Environmental officials updated the board on how 46-county, per-capita distribution would aid rural counties.
The plan is similar to what state lawmakers proposed. The Chronicle asked Lexington County lawmakers for their comments on the board's latest failure to decide.
The Senate bill passed last week and went back to the House because senators had amended it.
Senior Deputy for Public Health Nick Davidson told the board this plan would increase covid vaccines to rural counties needing it.
After meeting behind closed doors, the board asked Davidson if a regional plan would work.
Davidson said it would give greater flexibility.
The board decided to make no decision until they have more nformaion at their March 11 meeting.
What that needed information is was not made clear.
A joint House-Senate bill could be signed into law before the board meets again.
Right now, South Carolina receives about 76,000 vaccine doses a week.
Davidson said they may finish Phase 1a – the elderly and front line workers – in 8 weeks if supply continues at this rate.
