If a conservative turnout was expected to help Bernie Sanders Saturday, it failed.

Former Vice President Joe Biden was the top vote getter in all 46 SC counties including Lexington.

Conservatives had been encouraged to vote in the open primary for the candidate they thought least likely to beat President Trump in the November election.

Sanders, an independent running as what he calls a “democratic socialist,” was considered least likely.

In conservative Lexington County, Biden got 9,692 votes or 39.9% of the vote.

Sanders got 5,738 votes or 23.6% of the vote.

Statewide, Biden gained 256,047 votes and 35 delegates to the Democratic National Convention.

Statewide, Sanders picked up 105,197 votes and 13 party delegates.

A poor showing forced billionaire Tom Steyer and South Bend, IN, Mayor Pete Buttigieg to withdraw from the Democratic race.

In Lexington County, Steyer got only 2,822 votes and Buttigieg 2,571.

Of 6 candidates on the ballot, only Biden and Sanders won delegates to the national convention where the Democratic candidate for President will be chosen.
