Do you need a vaccine if you have recovered from covid-19?
Some scientists and doctors don't think so.
They say you already are immune.
With limited doses available, they believe the uninfected should get vaccine 1st.
Yet the Centers for Disease Control argues you should be vaccinated whether or not you’ve had the virus.
But 1 dose may be all you need.
Reinfection is possible, the CDC said.
“Experts do not yet know how long someone is protected from getting sick again after recovering,” the CDC said,
"While vaccine supply remains limited, people who have a recent infection may choose to temporarily delay vaccination,” a CDC representative added.
But opponents say that the possibility of reinfection is rare and vaccines shouldn’t be pushed on those with prior infection.
Due to vaccine shortages, a new study suggests that those who have already had covid should get only 1 shot to avoid adverse reactions and free supplies for those who need it more.
Researchers evaluated vaccine reactions after the 1st dose in 231 people – 83 who had been infected and 148 who had not.
They found both reported pain, swelling, and redness at the injection site but it improved in a few days.
Those with prior infections had more severe reactions – fever, headache, chills, muscle or joint pain and fatigue.
The study also looked at response to the vaccines in 109 people.
41 had recovered and 68 never had it.
They found the recovered patients had “10-20 times higher” antibody levels than those who had never been infected.
