A consumer benefit of the pandemic is gas prices below $1 a gallon.
But it is a curse for the oil industry since many drivers work from home and demand for gas has crashed.
In the Lexington area, only Shell at 5035 Augusta Rd. near I-20 offered regular unleaded at 96 cents a gallon.
Online GasBuddy,com reported next lowest prices:
• Marathon at 426 Columbia Ave near King St. in Lexington at $1.23.
• Mobil at 658 Two Notch Rd. and Emanuel Church Rd. for $1.32 a gallon.
Oil prices plunged below zero for the 1st time, the Wall Street Journal reported. It was a chaotic demonstration of the dwindling capacity to store all the crude that the world’s stalled economy would otherwise use
