Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher has identified the Gilbert man who died Wednesday night in a motorcycle accident.

Steven E. Spires Sr., 55, was operating a motorcycle traveling westbound on Peach Festival Rd. near Waters Ferry Rd when he approached slower traffic and spilled from his motorcycle, according to Fisher.

Spires, who was not wearing a helmet, did not collide with any other vehicle. He was transported to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead a short time later due to his injuries. 

The incident is under investigation by the South Carolina Highway Patrol.
