Haiti mission team coming home

Emily Wheaton and the mission team from Chapin United Methodist are on their way home.
The mission team arrived safely at the Port-au-Prince airport Tuesday. They arrived later that in that night in Atlanta.
Mission trips are a life-changing experience.
For the Chapin Methodist Church’s mission team in Haiti, this mission trip will be one they will never forget.
“On Friday we were winding up outside and we were supposed to go to the main campus for a church service,” Wheaton said.
“We did not as we were waiting for things to settle down so we could catch our flight and come home.”
Wheaton and a group of high school and college-age students left June 30 for a mission trip to Haiti.
Chapin UMC has sent mission teams frequently to Haiti to assist with aid and help build structures and homes.
Marcy Kenny, the assimilation pastor at the church, assured loved ones Sunday that “they are perfectly safe. They have food and water and are waiting for things to die down so they can come home.”
The Mission of Hope compound had around 160 people under their care, waiting for the unrest and violence to slow.
The violent demonstrations started over a 38% gas hike, a 47% rise in diesel and 51% rise in Kerosene.
The average annual income in the impoverished county is only $350- $409 per year.
Because of the U.S government ’s limited ability to provide emergency services in some areas of Haiti, they had discouraged travel to the country until the demonstrations have stopped.
Pastor Jody Flowers said he was “Praising God for His goodness and for His mercies. Please continue to pray for all other mission teams and for all of the nation, may the Prince of Peace reign.”
