I-20 widening project weekend traffic shift

Posted

The I-20 widening project in Lexington County will begin shifting from Stage 3 to Stage 4 Construction starting on Sunday, Oct. 3.
The traffic split currently in place from MM 53 to MM 59 in the eastbound direction will be moved to the 2 newly constructed lanes outside of the concrete barriers.
Later this month, westbound lanes will be shifted to the inside temporary lanes as shown in the figure. Traffic will remain in this configuration until June of 2021 while new westbound lanes are being constructed.
The road work is part of a 4-phase project to widen an 11-mile stretch of I-20 in Lexington County to improve traffic flow. This project is scheduled to be complete in December of 2021, and will provide 3 travel lanes in each direction from MM 49 to MM 60.
Motorists are asked to drive slowly and carefully in the work zone. SCDOT's 511 Traveler Info http://www.511sc.org/ can also be used to check road conditions.
