Law enforcement training in Cayce to start next week

SLED will use Former District 2 school buildings

Two vacant Lexington District 2 schools in Cayce will be used for a weeklong critical response training program, coordinated by the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

During business hours Monday, Feb. 25 through Friday, Mar. 1, residents, businesses and organizations near the former Claude A. Taylor Elementary, at 103 Ann Lane, and Granby Education Center, at 1407 Dunbar Road, can expect to see vehicle activity and personnel movement, and to hear noises at various times during the day in these areas, organizers say, as law enforcement, emergency response and other organizations conduct training exercises.

No live ammunition will be used in the training, and at no time will there be any danger to the public or properties in these areas.

Safety is a top priority in Lexington 2, said a district spokesperson, and training exercises such as these with law enforcement and emergency services partners make all schools - and surrounding communities - safer.

Questions should be directed to SLED's Thom Berry at 803-896-7136.
