Lex. 2 coach charged in assault on student

Posted

Investigators with the Cayce Department of Public Safety have charged an assistant coach at Brookland Cayce High School with assault and battery in the 3rd degree.
Willie Louis Scott Jr., 60, of Lexington, turned himself in Monday morning and was booked into the Lexington County Detention Center.
Scott is employed by Lexington School District 2 as a teacher’s assistant and assistant football coach at Brookland Cayce.
On Feb. 27, the victim was being counseled by another teacher for a violation of the BCHS dress code policy.
During the conversation, Scott approached the student and placed his hands about the victim’s neck and shoulders.
This restricted the victim’s airway, and he briefly lost consciousness, according to the Cayce Department of Public Safety.
The 18-year-old, male victim was able to return to class shortly after the incident.
The Cayce DPS School Resource Officer was notified of the incident by a school official, and an investigation was begun immediately.
Officials with Lexington School District 2 have fully cooperated with the investigation and continue to provide assistance as requested.
Scott’s next scheduled court appearance is Mar. 19 at the Cayce Municipal Court.
