Lexington 2 announces weather makeup days

Posted

Lexington Two has announced make-up dates for school missed due to Hurricane Florence.
Students will be required to attend classes Monday, January 14 (previously a teacher in-service day);  Monday, February 18 (previously a student holiday); and Friday, March 22 (also an in-service day).
The Board of Trustees, on the recommendation of Superintendent Dr. William James Jr., approved the days at its Thursday meeting, to make up for three days missed in early September, after SC Gov. Henry McMaster ordered the closure of many school districts in preparation for the storm. Lexington Two's school board also voted Thursday to forgive a fourth day missed due to the storm.
Districts are required by state law to make up a minimum of three missed days. Four to six days of closure resulting from inclement weather or other disruptions allow local school boards to “forgive” those missed days or require that they be made up. School boards may request a waiver from the State Board of Education for any closures of six to nine days due to weather or other disruptions.
Lexington Two’s original 2018-19 calendar designated January 21 as a makeup day, but the board voted Thursday to make the change to January 14.
