A Lexington County man abducted and shot their child's mother before killing himself.
According to Lexington County Coroner Margaret Fisher, Raymond Antonio Metze, 28, of Leesville was taken to Prisma Richland hospital where he was pronounced dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The shooting occurred at 10 am Feb. 9 in a wooded area at the end of Adams Terrace Court in Dixiana.
Investigators have determined Metze abducted the 30-year-old woman outside a Lexington medical office before forcing her to drive to woods in Dixiana, Lexington County Sheriff Jay Koon said.
Although wounded, the Lexington woman walked to a nearby home to ask for help, he said.
The victim's name is being withheld to protect her and her child's privacy.
She was transported with multiple gunshot wounds in her arm and body, the sheriff said.
"She was released from the hospital the day of the incident and, according to everything we’ve been told, is well on her way to a full recovery."
According to deputies' incident report, Metze was 5'4" tall and weighed 160 pounds.
He had numerous tattoos including "God Forgiven" and "Me Against the World."
Deputies with help from a K-9 found Metze lying near a Chevrolet Equinox with a gun shot wound in his head.
“Although we’re still looking into the nature of their relationship in recent weeks, we know they have been a couple in the past and have a child together,” Sheriff Koon said.
“This was not a random crime.”
