Lexington High graduate Adriana Bowman has been named one of 30 Thomas R. Pickering Graduate Fellowship recipients in the nation.

The Thomas R. Pickering Fellowship is meant to attract students interested in a career in foreign service with the US Department of State.

The fellowship provides internships with the State Department as well as two years of funding to students as they pursue master’s degrees.

Bowman is a senior in the South Carolina Honors College, where she majors in economics and minors in Chinese and political science.

Bowman is currently in India on a yearlong Boren Scholarship studying Hindi as part of the South Asian Flagship Language Initiative.

She plans to attend the University of Pittsburgh for graduate school and become a United States Foreign Service Officer.
