The covid-19 case count in Lexington and Richland counties jumped Sunday.

The Department of Health and Environmental Control Monday announced 542 new confirmed cases and 12 new probable cases in SC.

Lexington County had 69 cases and Richland County 90.

These were the highest county case counts in the state Sunday.

The Chronicle asked DHEC over how much time these cases were discovered.

"The cases were all reported to us yesterday as new cases, none historical," Laura Renwick of DHEC said.

"I've asked our data folks to see if a nursing home or other facility conducted group testing that would have contributed to this."

DHEC Monday reported 10 confirmed covid-19 deaths and 1 new probable death.

1 middle-aged victim in Lexington County died Saturday.

3 middle aged victims and 1 elderly victim died in Richland County.

2 died Sunday and the other 2 Saturday.

Confirmed cases to date are 142,449, probable cases 4,006, confirmed deaths 3,154 and 183 probable deaths.

Clarification about Clemson
After review and discussions with Clemson University and Rymedi, the lab performing testing for Clemson, we are clarifying our (DHEC) Sept. 26 release about the university’s covid-19 test results.

Since Sept. 26, Rymedi began providing the university's test results to DHEC.

However, it wasn't until today that Rymedi completed their reporting of 18,866 test results.

These include 18,051 negative, 813 positive and 2 invalid results.

Rymedi will report the university’s tests results to DHEC daily.

The lab will be able to report test results within the required 24 hour time frame.

Testing results
As of Sunday, 1,386,564 tests have been conducted in the state.

6,635 individual test results were reported to DHEC Sunday.

Of these, the percent tested positive was 8.2% infected.

This means 91.8% tested negative as uninfected.
