The Lexington-Richland School District 5 Board of Trustees will hold its April 27 Board meeting via teleconference.
The change is due to federal and state guidelines encouraging social distancing in response to coronavirus (COVID-19).
Board members will join remotely, using a secure Google platform. The live audio will be provided to the public through the district’s streaming platform.
A recording of the meeting will be posted on the district’s Board Information tab after the meeting, during the week of April 27.
Members of the public will be able to hear live audio of the April 27 meeting, beginning at 7 pm, by visiting the following link: https://lexrich5.rev.vbrick.com/#/webcasts/boardmeeting.
The District 5 board in the Irmo-Chapin area passed an emergency resolution last week that lets the superintendent and board chair waive or suspend existing policies, administrative procedures, and other rules related to Gov. Henry McMaster’s virus executive orders. The resolution can take voting power from elected board members during the crisis.
During the crisis, the SC School Boards Association recommended that districts:
• Not accept FoIA requests as “not essential and should not be a priority.”
• Temporarily eliminate public comment.
“The board is not required to hold a public comment period during board meetings, with the exception of public hearings, which would include budget hearings,” SCSBA officials said.
The District 5 board voted 4-3 to end public participation at their meetings during the state of emergency.
